The drawings in these paintings work from more than one angle. The image can be read correctly any way up, so the paintings may be hung in any orientation. This is the way that Raphael and Michelangelo would have worked on images to be seen overhead, so that the viewer may stand anywhere below and the image would still be readable. To do this requires complete mastery of drawing.
Made from the finest available oil paints, these oil paintings are on cotton duck canvas. In the age old tradition of the artist being involved in the total production of the work, the wooden stretcher has been made by the artist and the canvas has been hand stretched over it by the artist herself in the studio.

Sue Vesely - Artist Statement
"I paint from memory. I do not use models or paint anything from life. The memory of the way the world appears in our heads is a language which connects us at a level much deeper than speech. In seeing my work there is often the experience of being reminded of something personal. Some people say that I have painted their dreams.
I am calling my work Anominalism. This is to put a name to the idea that it is a natural fit to the mind that a single work should contain more than one language.
I use the figure from every angle, to me the surface of the body is an expressive landscape."
